WORD OF MOUTH

“Jolie is an amazing dancer – she has a background in everything from ballet to hip hop, elements of which come out every time she teaches a class or steps onstage. She also has an incredible dedication to her craft, which is why she is also one of the toughest teachers you’ll find (and I mean this in the best way possible). Every class with Jolie is a challenge, and she pushes all of her students to excellence - yet she balances this with encouragement, and if she praises you, you’ll know that you’ve earned it. She also has great skill in breaking down the mechanics of movement in general and helping individual dancers figure out exactly how to fine-tune their own movements. I’ve been studying with her for over a year, and my dancing is far better for it.”

Jolie is a truly exceptional dancer and teacher. She has amazing musicality and a beautiful lyricism to her choreography and combinations in class that are not only beautiful to watch and dance, but also challenge me and help me to grow as a performer. I love that she brings in aspects of many dance styles as it helps me to build a larger movement vocabulary and become a more well rounded dancer. On top of it all, Jolie is incredibly personable and fun to be around which makes her classes a pleasure to take, even when she’s kicking my butt! I cannot recommend her highly enough!

Jolie is a splendid teacher and skilled performer. She quickly identified areas where I could grow and develop as a dancer, and tailored choreographies, exercises, and drills to help me achieve my goals. After a few quick lessons, she brought my dancing to a new level. Her deft and innovative skill in music selection, interpretation, and choreography make coming to her class week after week a breeze. With an extensive dance background, Jolie fuses a diversity of movements together sure to inspire and invigorate any dancer—from the dilettante to the professional.

Another workshop I took was with Jolie of Read My Hips, a Chicago-based fusion company. I took her workshop at C&T last year as well and loved it—if you ever get a chance to study with her, I highly recommend it. She’s a fantastic dancer—great technique, very personable—and she led a wonderful workshop. I came away with some new solo fusion combinations, and even some group improv combos. In fact, the class inspired me to begin choreography of a slow solo—I’m interested in playing with different types of dynamics and especially exploring the “slinky” end of my range of movement. I am really drawn to Jolie’s sassy, technical style—lots of attitude and personality (you can see her performing here.)
