Description: Beginning dancers, fret not! This class will drill the absolute basics and get you moving like a pro in no time! We will focus on posture, basic isolations, and getting you familiar with belly dance lingo. I do ask that you take this class before you take the Drills & Technique class so I can make sure you are ready to move onto the harder material. If you would like to fast track your learning experience, but still need to take this class, you may take both this class and the Drills & Technique class in the same night and I will let you know when you don’t need to take the 101 class anymore. This class is appropriate for beginning Tribal Fusion belly dancers.

How do I pay for classes?
I accept cash, check ($30 return check fee), or credit card. You may pay for class packages before you attend by visiting my online store. There you have the option of pre-paying for a 5, 10, or 20 class card. Please be sure you are purchasing a card for the appropriate length of the class! One-hour classes are a different price than 1.5 hour classes.
What should I wear to a bellydance class?
Midriff-baring tops are helpful but not required. Please be sure that whatever top you choose is form fitting. I prefer that you wear pants that will allow me to see knee alignment, such as jazz pants, straight leg pants, or leggings. Skirts are not forbidden, per se, but please be aware that you may be presented material that is not skirt friendly. Non-jingly hip-scarves are great additions to your dance attire, as well, as they give you a visual element to focus on during hip work. Be sure that you are, above all, comfortable in what you wear to class. Dance shoes are not a requirement, but you may find they are very helpful. To each her own, but please, no street shoes in the studio.
It’s my first time in a belly dance class, what should I expect?
You can definitely expect the unexpected! My classes, while structured, are not series based. I try to present at least one new bit of material per class so that even a seasoned belly dancer will feel challenged. The most important thing in ANY dance class is to come with an open mind, ready to move, sweat, and HAVE FUN! For your first class, please show up about 5 minutes early to fill out a new student form.
Are your classes series based or can I just drop in?
Dance is an ever-evolving creature and no dance form can be learned back to front in three sessions. For this reason, I present my classes as ongoing and ever-changing. Drop-ins are welcomed and encouraged in every class but the pro-level, for which you need my approval to attend. I encourage my students to try new things, even if maybe they decide it’s a little beyond their level afterwards.
Basic dance class etiquette:
- Keep sideline chatting to a minimum while the instructor is speaking.
- Come with a water bottle and make sure you hydrate as necessary!
- If you are going to be late, please situate yourself quietly at the back of the room and try not to interrupt the flow of the class.
- Wear appropriate workout attire that will allow you to move freely.
- No street shoes in the studio!
- Bring your positive and receptive attitude! We are here to learn and that is easiest in a light and friendly environment.
